Financial disputes following divorce

Our barristers can advise if you and your former partner cannot agree on financial matters during or after a divorce — for example how assets should be divided, whether to sell your home, maintenance payments, or pension sharing. If you cannot agree, you can apply for a financial remedy order; our barristers can represent you at court hearings.

Estimates below are for cases where the parties have joint assets worth less than £300,000. All fees exclude VAT (where applicable).

Immigration appeals (First-tier Tribunal)

If you wish to appeal against a Home Office visa or immigration decision, our barristers can advise and represent you. You can ask us to submit an appeal form, or for a hearing at the First-tier Tribunal (Immigration and Asylum Chamber).

We may charge fixed fees. Estimates below are ranges for our barristers. All fees exclude VAT (where applicable).

Travel to courts outside the Greater London area attracts an additional charge depending on location and hearing time.

Barristers are not allowed to do legal aid work on a Public Access basis. To decide whether to apply for legal aid or proceed with Public Access, use the legal aid eligibility calculator on GOV.UK. Check legal aid eligibility.

You must appeal a decision within 14 days (from within the UK) or 28 days (from outside the UK) — contact the clerks as soon as possible. Timescales vary with barrister availability, complexity and the need for additional documents. Short-notice advice or representation may be possible; contact the clerks.

Typical timescales

Public Access work

For advisory work, unless otherwise agreed, we expect to return work within 14 days and will keep you informed if that changes — for example due to incomplete instructions, illness, or urgent court work on another matter.

For litigation, timescales also depend on court response times, the opponent, and other third parties such as expert witnesses.

Where a barrister at the firm is approved to undertake direct public access work, members of the public can instruct them directly without the need for a solicitor. Pricing is ordinarily hourly for advice, review and preparatory work, with fixed fees for hearings and conferences based on our best estimate of time, issues and paperwork.

Hourly rates are reviewed annually in January, but we reserve the right to alter rates at other times. We may add an uplift for complexity, financial value, importance to you, particular expertise, or urgency. You will be notified of any changes and may cease instructing us if rates increase.

Time billed can include attendances; drafting letters, emails and documents; telephone and text attendances; reviewing documents and correspondence; strategy; legal research; travelling; advocacy; file opening and compliance; preparation; attendance notes; and providing copies of documents after completion.
